RANT

In the teaching field in Turkey, things like country of origin, hair color and skin color are way more important than your qualifications. I used to work in a school that had a very very discriminating and unfair payment scheme. Regardless of my personal experience, teachers who can't speak up for themselves or obliged to 'work anywhere' to cover their living expenses, were generally overloaded with classes and discriminated in payment schemes ( more qualification, work more hours, get less than everyone else ) not to mention the psychological pressure created by f* up management giving you the feeling  'you are never good enough' .. while in fact you are handling everything !

Many teachers have been drowning with this kind of schools recently. .After three years at schools I have come to a conclusion that most employers lie and are far from being "professional". I guess working for schools is becoming a bad idea as they mess with teachers' psychology and make them hate the profession of teaching. Their standards of teacher evaluation are messed up (students' and parents' satisfaction, for example).
Teachers are expected to show their best when they aren't given their rights (getting salary on time, work permit, summer salaries, and RESPECT - Giving your best and experiencing their worst.

If you call yourself a boss and opened a school or language school and then fraud the government by not paying what u should pay.. why do u call yourself a boss ? Why do u open a  business and employ people and then you are not man enough to take the responsibility of everything ? I'm talking about school managers and also language school managers

However, you need to be confident in who you are and the long learning journey you have taken so far. You don't need to prove to anyone that you are working so hard to teach and develop in a 'FOURTH LANGUAGE' just to be able to make a living out of teaching English. Go for interviews ask for what everyone else is getting and if this was rejected for whatsoever reason, leave and find something that meets your expectations somewhere else. You don't have to do anything .. take your time.

Finally, It’s not about how much the schools pay if you ask me. Working in a healthy and positive atmosphere which is away from toxic people is much more important than anything. This is what I grasped after working in different varieties of schools over last 5 years. What’s the point of earning a lot of money, but taking too much stress?! Of course if you can get a decent salary in a good environment, you’re super lucky! 😉
